Bob Russo

Bob Russo earned his M.A. in American Government at Rutgers University, but began his professional career as a 4th grade teacher at Roseville Avenue School in Newark. He moved on to college level teaching and various roles in government and education during a 40 year career. Bob served as a union leader in CWA and AFTNJ, fighting for working families. Now retired, he has taught Public Administration at Montclair State, Kean and Rutgers Universities as an adjunct professor. Bob was the former President of the Montclair State University Adjunct Faculty Local 6025 and currently serves as Treasurer. He also serves as a Higher Ed. Vice President for
AFT-NJ. Bob was elected Mayor of Montclair in 2000 and currently serves as a Councilor At-Large. Bob has been active in AFT since he first began teaching in 1968, when he saw the poor conditions in his classroom at a 100 year old city school. He immediately joined the Newark Teachers Union, AFT Local 481, helping lead two strikes to fight for better facilities and teaching conditions for his students and fair treatment of educational staff.
