Dear Brothers and Sisters in Solidarity,

As 2023 ends, it is time to reflect on all the successes we have had and as 2024 begins, it is time to set new goals for our local.

First, we welcomed the adjuncts at Bloomfield College who had never been represented by a union. Thanks to our membership committee and department recruiters, our union membership is up by well over 100 new members, but there is still much work to be done in the spring.  Membership is our top priority, so we will begin our various events to increase membership in January.

Second, we ratified a new four-year contract with the State of New Jersey by an overwhelming 96+% vote. Thanks to our negotiating committee, who gave many hours to this behemoth task. In spring, we are negotiating a local contract with the MSU administration. So watch for updates.

Third, we celebrated 25 years as a union and was recognized by AFTNJ as one of the most productive unions and an advocate for adjuncts across the state. This is a result of the hard work of the officers of your union and the support of all of you, our members. We will continue to advocate and are presently involved with AFTNJ, CNJSCL, and other adjunct Unions at Rutgers and the County Colleges to advocate at the legislature for affordable health benefits for adjuncts. This will involve all of you, so watch for the call to action.

Look for all the many activities we sponsor with the university, with Council, with the state unions and with you, our members.  Our scholarships, our annual dinner where we recognize outstanding adjuncts, our “meet and greets.”  We are a family bound together by our fierce commitment to the betterment of the adjuncts at MSU.

None of this can be accomplished without the executive board of Local 6025, 9 officers, 2 officers in training, 2 interns, department liaisons, and you our  650+ members.

I wish you all a wonderful 2024.  Put on your resolution list becoming more involved in your union and the work we do.
