We have a long history of success!

In 1995, the Council of New Jersey State College Locals began its campaign to organize adjunct faculty across the state. The Council filed a petition to represent adjuncts in 1996. Sixty percent of the adjunct faculty of about 2700 signed cards requesting Council representation. The State objected.

In March 1997, the adjuncts overwhelmingly voted for council representation and our union was born. In November 1997, the first president of Local 6025, Sabine Eck, filed the charter application.

The charter was received on May 2, 1998. The same year the Council negotiated the first contract for the adjunct unit. The adjunct faculty received an increase in compensation of over 40 percent over the four years of the first agreement.

Our first dinner to honor adjuncts was 2012. Over the years, Local 6025 has remained ever vigilant to protect our contract and our members’ rights. In addition, we remain a positive force at MSU. We lobbied for and won an adjunct voting seat on University Senate.

We have co-sponsored with the Office for Faculty Excellence workshops for our adjuncts. We award scholarships to our members and we sponsor grants for our members’ children’s Scout projects. We contribute to the Hudson West Essex Labor Council scholarship and the MSU Senate Black Caucus scholarship. We have co-sponsored the MSU Multicultural Psychology Scholars event, co-sponsored the MSU Land Acknowledgement event, contributed to the MSU Food Bank and Ukrainian relief. We have participated in the MSU Student Relay for Life and Student Recognition Week on your behalf.
