Ileana Cabana
SECOND VICE PRESIDENT & MEMBERSHIP
I earned my MA from Kean University and completed post-graduate studies in supervision of instruction and school counseling. My thirty-five-year career in education and involvement with the NJEA started in the Union City School District as a teacher and guidance counselor. I coordinated college fairs and the financial aid conference and collaborated with the Institute for Student Achievement. I was also a member of the Hudson County Community College North Hudson Campus Scholarship Foundation. After my retirement, I held different adjunct positions at various colleges. My first experience in higher education was as an English as a Second Language adjunct professor at Huson Community College. Shortly after, I joined the Spanish and Latino Studies Department as a Spanish Adjunct at Montclair State University and the Languages and Cultures Department at William Paterson University. I also serve as a clinical supervisor for the William Paterson University College of Education.
I joined the AFT Local 6025 when I first started working at Montclair in 2014, and later, I became a department rep. I now serve as second vice president. Iām involved in various committees and the negotiating team and serve as a delegate to the Council of NJ State College Locals.
